Purkal Youth Development Society (PYDS) is a registered Society located in village Purkal, a semi-rural region on the outskirts of Dehradun, Uttarakhand - a state with low socio-economic indicators. We provide quality education and holistic care through a CBSE-affiliated school, from Class I-XII, to children (predominantly girls) from deeply needy and underprivileged families. This is done through a combination of high-quality academics, adequate nutrition, health care, and full exposure to co-curricular areas, at no cost to them. The Good Shepherd Agricultural Mission was founded in 1948 by Maxton Davis Strong and his wife, Shirley. Maxton Strong had been a professor of Agricultural Engineering at the Allahabad Agricultural Institute in India. Maxton was a US citizen but became an Indian citizen in 1983 by naturalization. After seeing the need of practical �hands on� agricultural training for aspiring young farmers, he purchased a large piece of good fertile land along the foothills of the Himalayas, which was being offered to him by the Indian Government. It was there that he would start his social work, educating and uplifting people from rural communities.

Waste burning releases dioxins and furans, among the most toxic and carcinogenic chemicals known. Microplastics and nano-plastics have polluted our air, water, and land. Black carbon from waste burning is a major pollutant, accelerating Himalayan glacier melt and worsening anthropogenic climate change. Effective waste management can not only help mitigate these impacts but also support biodiversity conservation for over 10,000 species of flora and fauna.
